The Pavilion

Grain, woven into architecture

The Italy Pavilion reinterprets the pagliaio — the Italian haystack — as contemporary architecture: an elliptical hall of straw and timber, built from natural fibres and designed to be dismantled and reborn. It evokes the light and landscape of the Italian countryside.

Inside, a single nave of light and wheat presents Italian excellence in horticulture, landscape design and sustainable agri-food — a story of research and innovation that Italy and Japan have written together for centuries.

"Wheat is the symbol of a heritage Italy and Japan share."
